What makes a resume clear and ATS-conscious?

An ATS-conscious resume uses standard section headings, readable fonts, and a mostly single-column layout so applicant tracking systems and recruiters can parse your experience. ToolNest’s ATS-conscious templates follow that pattern; more visual templates are better when a portfolio already shows design work.

Core sections to include

  • Contact — name, phone, email, city, and optional LinkedIn/portfolio
  • Professional summary — 2–4 lines on role, strengths, and target
  • Experience — role, company, dates, and achievement-focused bullets
  • Education — degree, institution, and year
  • Skills — tools and strengths relevant to the job

Professional summary tips

Lead with your target role and years of experience, then add 1–2 proof points (domain, stack, or outcome). Avoid vague phrases like “hardworking team player” without evidence.

How long should a resume be?

One page is enough for most early-career profiles. Two pages can work with substantial experience — keep bullets tight and remove outdated roles that do not support the job you want.

Resume Check scores readiness for basics like name, contact, summary, experience bullets, education, skills, and ATS-conscious formatting. It is not a hiring guarantee.

Yes. Content and design are separate. Changing the template updates layout and style while keeping your text, experience, and skills intact.

Write 2–4 lines that state your target role, experience level, and one or two concrete strengths or outcomes. Keep it specific to the jobs you are applying for.

One page works for most students and early-career applicants. Use two pages only when extra experience clearly supports the role.
