What is a date difference calculator?

It measures the time between two calendar dates — expressed as years, months, and days — plus the total number of whole days elapsed.

Formula

Calendar difference: subtract start from end (borrow months/days as needed)
Total days = floor((end date − start date) in milliseconds ÷ 86400000)

Example

From 1 Jan 2020 to 15 Mar 2024 → 4 years, 2 months, 14 days (and 1535 total days).

FAQ

What if end date is before start date?

The tool swaps dates and notes that the range was reversed.

Does it count leap years?

Yes — calendar math uses the actual month lengths including leap days.
